About the CARIB 41
Designed specifically for the Caribbean charter trade. (30 built) A later adaptation was the WHITNEY 41 (aka PASSAGE 41-1977) which has a teak interior, deeper draft and a taller rig. (9 built?)
The Carib 41 is a rare, heavy-displacement cruising sloop designed by Alan Gurney and built by Whitney Operations / CSY between 1970 and 1973. With only 30 hulls produced, this vessel represents a distinct era of robust, offshore-oriented American yacht construction.
- Best for:
- This boat is best suited for experienced coastal and offshore cruisers who prioritize seakeeping and comfort over high-speed performance, particularly those seeking a classic, solidly built vessel with a 15000.0 lb displacement.
- Bluewater capability:
- With a low capsize ratio of 2.27 and a high displacement-to-length ratio of 156.18, the Carib 41 is well-suited for bluewater passages, offering exceptional stability and motion comfort in heavy seas.
- Comparables:
- Comparable vessels include the Cal 40 and O'Day 38 from the same era, as they share similar beam dimensions and heavy displacement characteristics aimed at comfortable cruising.
