Sailpages Buyer's Take

Designed by Rod Macalpine-Downie and Dick Gibbs, the Mutineer 15 is a compact trailerable sloop with a production run of 7000 hulls built in 1972 by Chrysler Marine, Gloucester Yachts, and Cardinal Yachts. Its lightweight 410.0 lb displacement and 15.0 ft LOA define it as a high-performance daysailer rather than a heavy cruiser.

Best for:
This boat is ideal for coastal daysailing, trailerable cruising, and single-handers seeking a responsive, easy-to-handle package. It suits owners who prioritize performance and convenience over offshore endurance or heavy weather protection.
Bluewater capability:
With a low displacement of 410.0 lb and a comfort ratio of 4.05, the Mutineer 15 is not designed for bluewater cruising and is best restricted to protected coastal waters due to its light hull form.
Comparables:
Comparable boats include the O'Day 16 and Pearson 16, which share similar fractional sloop rigs and trailerable footprints from the same era. These models offer similar beam-to-length ratios and target the same market of weekend sailors seeking accessible, low-maintenance performance.
