About the MOODY 333
The 333 differs from the earlier Mk I and Mk II Moody 33s primarily in having an aft cabin accessible from the saloon, with a double berth in place of the two singles on the 33s. Besides the Thorneycraft, some were fitted with diesel engines by Perkins and Bukh. Also available with single fin keel with rudder on skeg.
Designed by Angus Primrose and built by Marine Projects Ltd. (UK) between 1981 and 1983, the Moody 333 is a compact coastal cruiser with a total production run of 77 hulls. Owner reports highlight a strong aftermarket support network, with frequent mentions of upgrades from brands like Petit, Selden, and North Sails.
- Best for:
- This boat suits coastal cruisers and weekend sailors who prioritize a manageable size and established maintenance protocols over heavy offshore passage-making. Its moderate displacement and beam make it suitable for those seeking a stable, easy-to-handle package for sheltered waters.
- Bluewater capability:
- With a displacement of 10575.0 lb and a capsize ratio of 2.08, the Moody 333 offers moderate stability for coastal passages but lacks the heavy displacement and robust construction typically required for extended bluewater voyaging.
- Comparables:
- Comparable boats include the Hallberg-Rassy 33 and the Nauticat 33, which share similar dimensions and coastal cruising roles from the early 1980s. These vessels offer similar masthead sloop rigs and displacement characteristics, providing a direct comparison for buyers seeking a 33-foot cruiser.
