The Mistral 16 is a compact fractional sloop designed by an unknown designer and built by Canadian Yacht Builders in Canada. Production was limited to the year 1980, with the total number of hulls built remaining undocumented in available records.

Best for:

This ultra-lightweight vessel, weighing only 365.0 lb, is best suited for beach launching, trailer sailing, and casual coastal day sailing rather than extended cruising. Its minimal displacement and small footprint make it ideal for single-handers or couples seeking easy transport and storage.

Bluewater capability:

With a displacement of 365.0 lb and a capsize ratio of 3.41, the Mistral 16 is not suitable for bluewater or offshore passage making. Its light weight and small size restrict it to protected coastal waters and sheltered bays.

Comparables:

Comparable boats include other 16-foot trailer-sailers from the early 1980s, such as the O'Day 16 or various Hobie Cat models, due to similar length overall (15.83 ft) and trailerable dimensions. These vessels share the Mistral's focus on ease of handling and minimal infrastructure requirements.
