About the MACGREGOR 26X
As sail/power 'hybrids', both the M and X models are designed for use with a more than 'auxilary' sized outboard (rated for 5-50hp) and water ballast. Displacement above includes full water ballast tanks. Dry hull weight: 2,350 lbs. Sail area: -Main: 151 ft² -Jib (100%): 130 ft² -Genoa (150%): 206 ft² -Spinnaker: 350 ft² The MACGREGOR 26M replaced the MACGREGOR 26X in 2003.
Designed by Roger Macgregor and built by Macgregor Yachts Inc. (USA) from 1995–2003, the MacGregor 26X is a compact trailerable sloop with approximately 5000 hulls produced. Its lightweight displacement of 3750.0 lb and fractional sloop rig prioritize ease of handling and trailering over heavy offshore stability.
- Best for:
- This boat is ideally suited for coastal cruisers, weekend warriors, and single-handers who prioritize easy trailering and low maintenance costs over heavy offshore capability.
- Bluewater capability:
- With a low displacement of 3750.0 lb and a capsize ratio of 2.02, the MacGregor 26X is generally considered suitable for protected coastal waters rather than extended bluewater passages due to its light construction and shallow draft.
- Comparables:
- Comparable boats include the MacGregor 26M and other trailerable designs from the late 1990s, such as the Beneteau First 23.5 or O'Day 23, which share similar fractional rigs and trailer-friendly dimensions.
