About the LANCER 29-3

Shoal draft keel: 4.17ft. Engine options: Outboard well, 15hp gas inboard, 8hp, 12hp or 15hp Yanmar diesel. Probably from molds purchased by Lancer from C&C Yachts (C&C 30?). The LANCER 29-3 became the LANCER 30 IN 1982. Not to be confused with the LANCER PS (Power Sailor), an entirely different design.

Sailpages Buyer's Take

The Lancer 29-3 is a classic 1970s cruiser designed by C&C Design and built by Lancer between 1977 and 1981. With a displacement of 7800.0 lb and a beam of 10.0 ft, it offers a balanced blend of performance and comfort typical of the era.

Best for:
This boat suits coastal cruisers and weekend racers who value the proven C&C Design hull form and the ease of a masthead sloop rig. Its dimensions and ratios indicate it is well-suited for single-handers or couples seeking a manageable, responsive package.
Bluewater capability:
With a capsize ratio of 2.02 and a displacement of 7800.0 lb, the Lancer 29-3 is primarily a coastal cruiser rather than a dedicated bluewater passagemaker. Its fin keel and moderate draft of 5.17 ft favor protected waters and shorter offshore passages over heavy ocean voyaging.
Comparables:
Comparable boats include the C&C 29 and other late-1970s 29-foot masthead sloops, as they share similar design philosophies, beam widths, and displacement characteristics. These vessels offer similar performance profiles and interior layouts for buyers in this size class.
