About the ERICSON 32-2
The first ERICSON 32 (also known as the SCORPION 32 - 1966) was a completely different boat and was only produced for a short period of time. (See ERICSON SCORPION 32) This, far more popular version, is conventionally referred to as ERICSON 32-2. It began production in 1969 and hull numbers 101 through 573 were built by 1978. The Ericson 32-3 didn't begin production until 1985. Tot.UW SA: 508.00 ft2 / 47.19 m2
Designed by Bruce King and built by Ericson Yachts (USA) from 1969–1978, the Ericson 32-2 is a classic cruising sloop with 470 hulls produced. Its 8800.0 lb displacement and 284.18 D/L ratio reflect a heavy, comfortable motion favored by coastal cruisers.
- Best for:
- This boat suits coastal cruisers and weekend sailors who prioritize comfort and interior volume over high-performance racing. Its 25.2 comfort ratio makes it particularly well-suited for families or couples seeking a stable, easy-to-handle package.
- Bluewater capability:
- With a 1.88 capsize ratio and 3999.6 lb of ballast, the Ericson 32-2 is capable of offshore passages, though its 24.0 ft LWL and fin keel suggest it is best suited for protected coastal waters rather than extreme ocean racing.
- Comparables:
- Comparable boats include the Cal 32 and O'Day 32, which share similar displacement and beam dimensions from the same era. These vessels offer similar interior layouts and cruising-oriented performance profiles.
