About the HOLIDAY 30
VDS #42. Thank to 'davetuemmler' for additional information. He was told that approximately 130 were built. A keel/cb model was also available. Draft BU:3.25' BD: 6.25' It is thought that most 'Holiday's were built at the van de Stadt yard primarily for export to the US.
The Holiday 30 is a rare, single-year production vessel designed by Van De Stadt and built by Holiday Yachts Inc. (NED) in 1956, with a total build count of 130 hulls. As a 30.0 ft LOA fractional sloop with a displacement of 7000.0 lb, it represents a specific era of Dutch yacht construction that is distinct from more common American or British designs of the same period.
- Best for:
- This boat is best suited for coastal cruisers and enthusiasts of vintage European yachts who appreciate a moderate comfort ratio of 25.23 and a manageable beam of 8.42 ft. Its fractional sloop rig and 4.25 ft max draft make it accessible for sailors seeking a classic aesthetic with relatively shallow draft capabilities.
- Bluewater capability:
- With a displacement of 7000.0 lb and a capsize ratio of 1.76, the Holiday 30 exhibits moderate offshore potential, though its single-year production and age suggest it is better suited for protected coastal cruising rather than heavy bluewater passage-making.
- Comparables:
- Comparable boats include other 1950s European fractional sloops of similar length, such as the Dutch-built Westerly or early German designs, due to the shared era and fractional rig configuration. It also shares dimensional similarities with contemporary American 30-footers, though its Dutch origin and specific Van De Stadt design offer a unique alternative to the more ubiquitous American production yachts.
