About the CARTER 37 (1 TON)
Production version of 1973 IOR One Ton Cup winner, 'YDRA'. (1 ton was 27.5', IOR MkIII) The production version has an extended wedge shaped coach roof and fitted out interior. The photo and drawing of the production version, courtesy of Philippe Jacques ROUX. At least one other Carter One ton design was introduced and went into production several years later from an American builder. (CARTER 36 OR TEXAS ONE TON?)
The Carter 37 is a heavy-displacement cruising sloop designed by Dick Carter and built by Olympic Yachts in Greece, with production records indicating a build year of 1973. With a displacement of 15300.0 lb and a comfort ratio of 28.12, this vessel is engineered for stability and seakeeping rather than high-speed planing.
- Best for:
- This boat is best suited for experienced coastal cruisers and those seeking a stable, comfortable platform for extended offshore passages, given its heavy displacement and proven hull form.
- Bluewater capability:
- With a displacement of 15300.0 lb and a capsize ratio of 1.92, the Carter 37 demonstrates strong offshore suitability and resistance to capsizing in heavy weather.
- Comparables:
- Comparable vessels include the Cal 40 and Valiant 40, which share similar heavy-displacement characteristics and cruising-oriented designs from the same era.
