About the CAL 35 (1979)
Shown here is the MKII version introduced in 1981 with a slightly different interior most notably on the earlier versions the head was aft on the port side next to the companionway and the galley was on the starboard side. Not to be confused with the earlier CAL 35 CRUISING KETCH. (1973)
Designed by C. William Lapworth and built by Jensen Marine (USA), the CAL 35 is a robust cruising sloop with a production run limited to 1979. With a displacement of 13000.0 lb and a beam of 11.0 ft, this vessel offers a comfortable interior volume typical of late-70s American production yachts.
- Best for:
- This boat is best suited for coastal cruisers and those seeking a stable, heavy-displacement platform for relaxed offshore passages, rather than high-performance racing.
- Bluewater capability:
- With a displacement of 13000.0 lb, a capsize ratio of 1.87, and a comfort ratio of 26.89, the CAL 35 is well-suited for bluewater cruising due to its heavy displacement and stable hull form.
- Comparables:
- Comparable vessels include the Cal 3-27 and Cal 40, which share similar design philosophies and eras, as well as the Pearson 35 and O'Day 35, which offer similar beam and displacement characteristics for coastal cruising.
