Sailpages Buyer's Take

The Buzzards Bay 25 is a rare, historic vessel designed by Nathanael Herreshoff and built by Herreshoff Manufacturing Co. with a total production run of only 5 hulls in 1914. As a gaffhead sloop with a displacement of 7400.0 lb, it represents a significant piece of maritime history rather than a mass-produced cruising platform.

Best for:
This boat is best suited for heritage enthusiasts and coastal cruisers who prioritize historical authenticity and classic sailing characteristics over modern convenience or high-speed performance.
Bluewater capability:
With a displacement of 7400.0 lb and a capsize ratio of 1.8, the boat possesses a heavy, stable hull form that suggests reasonable offshore stability, though its age and gaff rig require careful consideration for extended bluewater passages.
Comparables:
Comparable vessels include other early 20th-century Herreshoff designs and similarly sized gaff-rigged sloops from the 1910s, such as the Columbia 26 or early O'Day models, due to their shared era, rig type, and displacement characteristics.
