About the BARBICAN 35

Barbican Constuction aquired the molds for the SUPER SOVEREIGN 35 and built a sloop rigged version. It is not thought that many were built before the molds were destroyed.

Sailpages Buyer's Take

The Barbican 35 is a rare, heavy-displacement cruising sloop designed by Holman and Pye and built by Barbican Construction Ltd. in 1975. With a production run of only one known hull, this vessel represents a unique, custom-built example of late-1970s British yacht design rather than a mass-produced model.

Best for:
This boat is best suited for experienced coastal cruisers or conservative bluewater sailors who prioritize seakindliness and comfort over speed, given its high comfort ratio of 40.99 and substantial displacement of 16350.0 lb.
Bluewater capability:
With a low capsize ratio of 1.58, a high displacement-to-length ratio of 415.29, and a full/long keel, the Barbican 35 is well-suited for offshore passages, offering excellent stability and tracking ability in heavy weather.
Comparables:
Comparable vessels include other heavy-displacement, full-keel designs from the mid-1970s such as the Hallberg-Rassy 35 or the O'Day 35, which share similar emphasis on stability and offshore safety over planing performance.
