About the BANSHEE 13

Banshee International built 15 light weight carbon-fiber derivatives with only minor modifications called the Griffon (or Gryphon). Displacement: 80 lbs. We're told Abbott Boats of Ontario, Canada was licensed to make 500 boats. It isn't known how many they actually made.

Designed by Richard L. Reid and built by Marine Plastics/Banshee Int. (USA) in 1969, the Banshee 13 is a high-performance catboat with approximately 9000 hulls produced. Its lightweight 115.0 lb displacement and 59.56 SA/D ratio define it as a fast, responsive day sailor rather than a heavy cruiser.

This boat suits day sailors, club racers, and coastal cruisers seeking a low-maintenance, trailerable package that is easy to single-hand. Its shallow 2.75 ft max draft and cat rig make it ideal for shallow waters and quick launch/retrieval.

Bluewater capability:

With a capsize ratio of 4.05 and a comfort ratio of 1.73, the Banshee 13 is not designed for offshore passage-making but is suitable for protected coastal waters and day sailing.
