About the ROCKET 22
A development of the earlier, Mull designed, POCKET ROCKET.
The Rocket 22 is a lightweight, performance-oriented fractional sloop designed by Gary Mull and Don Martin, built by Rocket Boats in Canada. With a production run of only 15 hulls completed in 2002, this rare vessel offers a unique blend of speed and simplicity, characterized by its 1600.0 lb displacement and 22.0 ft LOA.
- Best for:
- This boat is best suited for coastal day sailors, weekend cruisers, or single-handers seeking a responsive, trailerable package, as its light displacement and fractional rig prioritize performance over heavy offshore comfort.
- Bluewater capability:
- With a low displacement of 1600.0 lb, a capsize ratio of 2.9, and a comfort ratio of 6.62, the Rocket 22 is not designed for bluewater passages but is capable of protected coastal cruising given its stable hull form.
- Comparables:
- Comparable boats include the O'Day 222 and the Catalina 22, which share similar fractional sloop rigs and trailerable footprints, though the Rocket 22 distinguishes itself with a lighter displacement and more modern 2002-era construction techniques.
