About the MG-C27

Originally the Contessa 27. In 1985 the molds and design of the Contessa 27 were purchased by MG Yachts and thereafter sold as the MG-C27. A number of companies molded hulls for MG Yachts including Jaguar Yachts and Northshore Yachts. Northshore yachts eventually took over MG Yachts. There was also a drop keel version: draft from 3.16' - 5.83'.

Sailpages Buyer's Take

The MG-C27 is a fractional sloop designed by Rob Humphreys and built by Marine Glass Yachts (UK) in 1985. With a displacement of 6000.0 lb and a beam of 10.0 ft, it offers a comfortable cruising platform, though the exact total hulls built is unknown.

Best for:
This boat suits coastal cruisers and those seeking a manageable, well-proportioned cruiser with a fractional rig, particularly owners willing to manage specific structural maintenance.
Bluewater capability:
With a capsize ratio of 2.2 and a D/L ratio of 208.52, the boat is moderately stable for coastal passages but its light displacement and specific hull cracking issues suggest caution for extended bluewater use without thorough structural verification.
Comparables:
Comparable to other late-1980s British fractional sloops like the Hallberg-Rassy 35 or Hallberg-Rassy 31 due to similar displacement and robust construction ethos, though the MG-C27 is notably lighter at 6000.0 lb.
