About the LYNAES 14
From a type designed and built by Ole Jensen in 1820. The first fiberglass version was built in around 1960.(It is thought that several hundred of these were built.) Later, some were built in Australia, and another version was built in Canada called the NORDICA 16.
The Lynaes 14 is a compact fractional sloop designed by Ole Jensen and Christian Madsen, built by Lynaes Shipyard in Sweden. With a production run of 1820 hulls, this vessel represents a significant volume of small-craft ownership data, though the exact start and end years of production are not specified in the authoritative records.
- Best for:
- This boat is best suited for day sailing, casual coastal cruising, and beginners seeking a manageable, lightweight package. Its fractional sloop rig and modest beam of 6.17 ft make it accessible for single-handers or couples looking for easy trailering and storage.
- Bluewater capability:
- With a displacement of 1102.0 lb and a capsize ratio of 2.39, the Lynaes 14 is not designed for offshore bluewater passage making. Its light displacement and short waterline length of 14.9 ft indicate it is strictly a coastal or inshore daysailer.
- Comparables:
- Comparable boats include other 14-15 ft fractional sloop designs from the same era, such as the O'Day 14 or similar Swedish-built daysailers. These vessels share similar displacement figures around 1102.0 lb and beam dimensions, targeting the same market of affordable, easy-to-handle weekend cruisers.
