About the LAGOON 420

Introduced at the Annapolis Boat show in October 2006 (model year 2007) the LAGOON 420 was advertised as 'the first series-produced sailboat with diesel-electric drives as standard equipment'. A number of layouts available with owner or charter versions. Offered for sale/charter from the Moorings company. An updated version is the LAGOON 421, equipped with the more conventional twin diesel power. Replaced with a new (2015) LAGOON 42. (listed here as LAGOON 42-2).

Designed by Van Peteghem/Lauriot Prévost and built by Lagoon Catamaran, the Lagoon 420 was produced in a single year, 2007, with a total hull count of 270. This limited production run creates a distinct, closed market for this specific model, distinguishing it from the continuous production lines of its successors.

Best for:

This catamaran is best suited for coastal cruisers and those seeking a spacious, stable platform for relaxed sailing, given its fractional sloop rig and moderate comfort ratio of 8.59. Its relatively light displacement of 16040.0 lb and shallow max draft of 4.16 ft make it ideal for shallow-water exploration and marina-friendly handling.

With a capsize ratio of 3.9 and a D/L ratio of 109.16, the Lagoon 420 is designed primarily for coastal and nearshore cruising rather than extreme offshore passages, though its twin hulls provide inherent stability for moderate bluewater use.
