About the KING'S CRUISER 29

The original KINGS CRUISER 28 has a fractional rig and was built of wood at the Strorebro yard in Sweden. In America, it was introduced at the NY Boat show of 1955. With it's high quality, all mahogany contruction, and very reasonable price, it was a huge hit. Approx. 600 were built and sold around the world. A large number went to the US. See KING'S CRUISER 28. This, the later fiberglass version, the KINGS CRUISER 29,(introduced in 1968) and built by Γ…bo Shipyard of Finland and has a masthead rig. Of this latter version, 246 were built, primarily for export.

Sailpages Buyer's Take

Designed by Tord Sunden and built by Bellena Marine (UK), the King's Cruiser 29 is a classic 1968-era sloop with a production run of 246 hulls. This vessel represents a specific snapshot of late-60s British boatbuilding, characterized by its 28.5 ft LOA and 6815.0 lb displacement.

Best for:
This boat suits coastal cruisers and weekend sailors who appreciate classic aesthetics and manageable size, as the data lacks evidence of extensive bluewater modifications or heavy offshore usage patterns.
Bluewater capability:
With a capsize ratio of 1.74 and a comfort ratio of 25.51, the boat offers moderate offshore stability, though the absence of reported bluewater-specific upgrades suggests it is primarily suited for coastal and sheltered waters.
Comparables:
Comparable to other 1960s British fin-keel sloops like the Hallberg-Rassy 35 or early O'Day models, it shares similar displacement and beam characteristics with that generation of cruising yachts.
