About the KALIK 30
Designed as IOR 1/2 ton. Developed, and early boats (number unknown) built in Holland. The molds were shipped to Korea where, it is thought, the majority were built. Kyung-Il Yacht was part of Hyundai, the Korean conglomerate. Possibly the same as the TUTRLE 30? (for which we have only seen a brochure)
Designed by Jac. de Ridder and built by Kyung-Il Yacht in Korea, the Kalik 30 is a compact cruiser with a production run of 125 hulls between 1978 and 1981. Its design emphasizes a balanced mix of performance and comfort, reflected in a comfort ratio of 20.16 and a displacement of 7600.0 lb.
- Best for:
- This boat suits coastal cruisers and weekend sailors who prioritize a manageable 30-foot footprint with respectable offshore credentials. Its moderate displacement and fin keel configuration make it suitable for those seeking a responsive yet stable platform for short-to-medium passages.
- Bluewater capability:
- With a capsize ratio of 2.12 and a displacement of 7600.0 lb, the Kalik 30 demonstrates adequate stability for offshore passages, though its relatively light displacement suggests it is best suited for protected coastal waters rather than extreme oceanic conditions.
- Comparables:
- Comparable boats include the O'Day 30 and Pearson 303, which share similar beam dimensions and production eras. These vessels offer similar interior volumes and masthead sloop rigs, providing a direct comparison for buyers seeking a 30-foot cruising sloop from the late 1970s.
