About the JAGUAR 27
Same design as the US CATALINA 27. A twin keel version was also available reducing the draft to 3.65 ft.. Some boats had transom hung rudders.
Designed by Frank Butler and Bob Finch and built by Eric Birch Yachts (UK) starting in 1971, the Jaguar 27 is a compact coastal cruiser with a displacement of 6850.0 lb and a beam of 8.86 ft. While the exact total hulls built is unknown, the model is characterized by a masthead sloop rig and a fin keel with a max draft of 4.33 ft.
- Best for:
- This boat suits coastal cruisers and weekend sailors who prioritize a manageable 26.83 ft LOA and established owner community support over long-range offshore passage making.
- Bluewater capability:
- With a capsize ratio of 1.87 and a comfort ratio of 24.88, the Jaguar 27 is generally considered suitable for protected coastal waters rather than heavy offshore bluewater cruising.
- Comparables:
- Comparable boats from this era include the O'Day 27 and Pearson 26, which share similar dimensions and roles as popular, trailerable coastal cruisers with comparable displacement and beam.
