About the ISLANDER 34
Probably based on the original ISLANDER 32 (1963) with a different rudder, coach roof and bowsprit added. (A new rudder profile itself, almost certainly, was influenced by that of the 12 meter 'Constellation' that successfully defended the America's Cup in 1964.) Sold also in kit form as the YACHTCRAFT 34.
The Islander 34 is a rare, heavy-displacement cruising sloop designed by McGlasson/Islander and built by Wayfarer Yacht Corp. (USA) with only 14 hulls constructed in 1964. Its substantial 10400.0 lb displacement and 297.14 D/L ratio reflect a design prioritizing stability and comfort over speed.
