The Irwin 37-1 is a classic American cruising sloop designed by Ted Irwin and built by Irwin Yachts (USA) between 1971 and 1975. With a displacement of 18000.0 lb and a comfort ratio of 33.51, this vessel is engineered for a stable, comfortable passage-making experience.
- Best for:
- This boat is ideally suited for coastal cruisers and those seeking a balanced, easy-to-handle sloop with ample interior volume for liveaboard comfort. Its moderate sail area-to-displacement ratio of 13.05 makes it accessible for short-handed sailing without sacrificing performance.
- Bluewater capability:
- With a low capsize ratio of 1.76 and a heavy displacement of 18000.0 lb, the Irwin 37-1 demonstrates strong inherent stability and seaworthiness for offshore passages.
- Comparables:
- Comparable vessels from this era include the Cal 34 and O'Day 36, which share similar beam dimensions and cruising-oriented hull forms. These boats offer similar interior layouts and performance characteristics for owners seeking a reliable 30-37 foot cruiser.
