About the INVICTA (TRIPP)
The first 2 boats, based on this design, were built by Palmer Johnson. (1959). It is thought that Pearson purchased the molds from them and extended the LOA by 1'8", though this is disputed by some. This flush deck version was superseded, in 1964, by the INVICTA II with a standard coach roof. (Thanks to Nanette Blish, and Dave Bricker, both former INVICTA owners, for supplying updated information on this model.)
The Invicta is a rare, heavy-displacement cruising yacht designed by William Tripp and built by Pearson Yachts between 1960 and 1965, with a total production run of only 21 hulls. Its substantial displacement of 15000.0 lb and high comfort ratio of 34.74 reflect a design philosophy prioritizing seakeeping and stability over speed.
- Best for:
- This boat is best suited for experienced coastal and offshore cruisers who value a solid, motion-dampened ride and are willing to manage a heavy, full-keel vessel with a 7.7 ft max draft.
- Bluewater capability:
- With a low capsize ratio of 1.72 and a high D/L ratio of 428.57, the Invicta is well-suited for bluewater cruising, offering excellent stability and resistance to capsizing in heavy weather.
- Comparables:
- Comparable boats include the Pearson 365 and other mid-60s full-keel yachts like the Tartan 36, as they share similar heavy displacement, full keel configurations, and a focus on safe, comfortable cruising.
