About the INVADER 36 (C&C)

Originally designed for Hinterhoeller Yachts but most were actually built by Belleville Marine which was also part of Cuthbertson & Cassian Ltd. at the time. In 1968 a keel/cb version was introduced called the FRIGATE. Thanks to Peter Cohrs for providing updated information.

Sailpages Buyer's Take

The C&C Invader 36 is a rare, high-performance cruising sloop designed by C&C and built by Hinterhoeller Yachts Ltd. in Canada between 1965 and 1968. With only 24 hulls produced, this vessel represents a distinct era of Canadian boatbuilding, combining a 35.75 ft LOA with a substantial 10550.0 lb displacement.

Best for:
This boat suits experienced coastal cruisers and performance-oriented sailors who appreciate a heavy-displacement, fin-keel design with a 30.8 comfort ratio. Its 17.66 SA/D ratio indicates it is well-suited for those who prioritize sailing performance over pure motoring capability.
Bluewater capability:
With a 330.27 D/L ratio and a low 1.67 capsize ratio, the Invader 36 possesses the heavy displacement and stability characteristics necessary for safe offshore passage-making.
Comparables:
Comparable vessels include other mid-1960s Canadian-built performance cruisers such as the C&C 36/37 series or the Pearson 36, which share similar displacement and era-specific construction methods. These boats offer similar offshore potential but differ in specific hull forms and rig configurations.
