Sailpages Buyer's Take

Designed by William Cook and built by Johnson Boat Works/New Orleans Marine between 1984 and 1987, the Impulse 26 is a compact fractional sloop with a production run of 40 hulls. Its lightweight displacement of 2750.0 lb and high SA/D ratio of 26.72 indicate a design prioritizing speed and agility over heavy offshore comfort.

Best for:
This boat suits coastal cruisers and day-sailers who value performance and ease of handling, particularly those interested in single-handed sailing due to its manageable size and fractional rig.
Bluewater capability:
With a low displacement of 2750.0 lb and a comfort ratio of 10.86, the Impulse 26 is best suited for protected coastal waters rather than extended bluewater passages.
Comparables:
Comparable boats include the Catalina 25 and O'Day 26, which share similar era and coastal cruising roles, though the Impulse distinguishes itself with a lighter displacement and more performance-oriented hull form.
