About the HOLDER 14
Nearly the same as the VAGABOND 14. Vagabond was purchased by Coast Catamaran in 1982 (builders of the Hobie Cat and owned by Coleman Company Inc.) and called the HOBIE ONE-14. Also sold as the O'DAY 14 and the MONARCH 14. Rig dimension (I,J,P,E) shown here are actually for HOLDER 14 MKII. Thanks to Judy Blumhorst, of HydeSailsdirect.com for providing this information.
The Holder 14 is a compact catamaran designed by Ron Holder and built by Coast Catamaran (USA) between 1983 and 1986. While the exact build count is unknown, this model represents a specific era of small, lightweight multihull cruising with a displacement of 265.0 lb.
- Best for:
- This boat is best suited for coastal cruising and weekend getaways due to its shallow draft and lightweight nature, making it ideal for sailors who prioritize easy trailering and access to shallow waters over heavy offshore passage-making.
- Bluewater capability:
- With a very low displacement of 265.0 lb and a comfort ratio of 2.82, the Holder 14 is not designed for serious bluewater cruising and is better characterized as a coastal cruiser with limited offshore capability.
- Comparables:
- Comparable boats include other 13-14 foot catamarans from the 1980s such as the Microcat 13 or early Hobie Cat models, as they share similar fractional sloop rigs, lightweight construction, and a focus on recreational coastal sailing rather than bluewater endurance.
