Developed as a one-design for a professional racing circuit that came to fruition for a very short period in the late 1980's. Beam: retractable to 8'. 14' with wings. For a time, with built in storage, and a cooler, it was reissued as the HOBIE 21 SPORT CRUISER.

Designed by John Wake and built by Hobie from 1987–1990, the Hobie 21 SE is a compact, high-performance catamaran with a production run of 900 hulls. Its fractional sloop rig with a rotating spar and lightweight 565.0 lb displacement define its character as a nimble, trailerable day-sailer.

This boat is ideal for coastal day-sailing, trailerable cruising, and single-handers seeking a responsive, easy-to-handle package. Its shallow 2.16 ft max draft and compact 21.25 ft LOA make it perfect for beach launching and tight marina slips.

With a low capsize ratio of 4.62 and a lightweight 565.0 lb displacement, this boat is not designed for offshore bluewater cruising but is well-suited for protected coastal waters and short passages.
