About the HALLBERG-RASSY 312

A MK II was introduced in 1986. Same hull and sail plan. MK II Improvements include larger portlights which were moved up to the superstructure. Plus the superstructure was also raised, improving saloon headroom from 1.83m to 1.85 m. Later models had a Volvo Penta 2003S/120B 28 HP engine Thanks to Luuk Jansen for information and corrections.

Sailpages Buyer's Take

The Hallberg-Rassy 312 is a classic Swedish cruiser designed by Christoph Rassy and Olle Enderlein, with 690 hulls built between 1979 and 1993. It is widely recognized for its robust construction and traditional cruising comfort, serving as a benchmark for quality in the 30-foot displacement cruiser segment.

Best for:
This boat is ideally suited for coastal and offshore cruisers who prioritize comfort, stability, and low-maintenance durability over high-performance racing metrics. Its heavy displacement and comfortable motion make it a strong candidate for couples or families seeking a reliable bluewater passage maker.
Bluewater capability:
With a displacement of 10803.0 lb and a capsize ratio of 1.83, the 312 is well-suited for offshore passages, offering a stable platform that handles heavy weather with confidence.
Comparables:
Comparable vessels include the Hallberg-Rassy 32 and 36, which share similar design philosophies and build quality, as well as the Tartan 34 and O'Day 36 from the same era, which offer similar displacement and cruising-oriented layouts.
