About the GALLANT 53
vds design #158. When introduced, this was the worlds largest 'series-built' FG yacht. Center and aft cockpit versions. Sloop or ketch. In 1977, it was on a GALLANT 53 that Naomi James became the first woman to sail around the world single handed.
The Gallant 53 is a substantial cruising yacht designed by E. G. van de Stadt and built by Tylers Boat Co. and Southern Ocean Shipyards Ltd. (UK) between 1966 and 1973, with a total production run of 22 hulls. This rare vessel combines classic British construction with a heavy displacement hull form, offering a robust platform for serious offshore passage-making.
