Sailpages Buyer's Take

Designed by Koos de Ridder and built by Dever Bootswerft / Friendship yachts (NL) between 1982 and 1991, the Friendship 21 is a compact fractional sloop with a production run of 67 hulls. Its lightweight displacement of 2182.58 lb and high SA/D ratio of 21.65 indicate a design prioritizing performance and ease of handling over heavy cruising comfort.

Best for:
This boat is best suited for coastal cruising, daysailing, and novice sailors seeking a manageable, trailerable package that is easy to single-hand. Its low comfort ratio of 10.43 suggests it is not ideal for heavy-weather offshore passages but excels in protected waters.
Bluewater capability:
With a low displacement of 2182.58 lb and a capsize ratio of 2.53, the Friendship 21 is not designed for serious bluewater voyaging and is better restricted to coastal and inshore use.
Comparables:
Comparable boats include the O'Day 23 and Catalina 22, which share similar LOA dimensions and target the same market of entry-level coastal cruisers. Like these models, the Friendship 21 offers a fractional rig and fin keel configuration typical of 1980s performance cruisers.
