About the FINNFIRE 33
Prototype was winner of 1976 3/4 ton cup.
Designed by Eivind Still and built by Fiskars, the Finnfire 33 is a robust cruising sloop with a production run of 60 hulls constructed between 1976 and 1982. Its heavy displacement of 10582.0 lb and high comfort ratio of 24.78 reflect a design prioritizing stability and seakeeping over pure speed.
- Best for:
- This boat is best suited for coastal and offshore cruisers who value a solid, motion-dampened ride and are willing to perform diligent maintenance on aging composite structures. It appeals to owners seeking a proven, heavy-displacement platform for extended cruising rather than competitive racing.
- Bluewater capability:
- With a low capsize ratio of 1.94 and a displacement-to-length ratio of 261.18, the Finnfire 33 is well-suited for bluewater cruising, offering excellent stability and resistance to capsizing in heavy weather.
- Comparables:
- Comparable boats include the Hallberg-Rassy 33 and the Tartan 33, as they share similar heavy-displacement characteristics, fin keel configurations, and a reputation for safe, comfortable offshore cruising from the late 1970s.
