About the EYGTHENE 24
Production version of the Holland 1973 1/4 ton Cup winner "Eygthene". Twin keel version was available. The same design was available as KIWI 24 in the US and HOLLAND 24 in Australia. The boat was also built in Argentina under the name EITIN by Astilleros Ancarola in partnership between Ron Holland and the Argentine designer Carlos Ancarola. Rig Dims. from ORC cert.
The Eygthene 24 is a compact, performance-oriented cruiser designed by Ron Holland and built by Master Marine (UK) starting in 1974. With a displacement of 4300.0 lb and a beam of 9.6 ft, this masthead sloop offers a balanced blend of speed and comfort, though its exact total production volume remains unverified.
- Best for:
- This boat suits coastal cruisers and weekend racers who prioritize sailing performance and manageable size over extensive bluewater provisioning. Its relatively light displacement and high sail area-to-displacement ratio make it ideal for active sailors seeking a responsive, easy-to-handle package.
- Bluewater capability:
- While the boat features a moderate capsize ratio of 2.36 and a fin keel, its light displacement of 4300.0 lb and narrow beam limit its suitability for serious offshore passages compared to heavier, full-keel designs.
- Comparables:
- Comparable boats include the O'Day 23 and the Pearson 23, which share similar dimensions and target the same market of entry-level cruisers. However, the Eygthene distinguishes itself with Ron Holland's performance-focused hull design and a higher comfort ratio of 15.21.
