Gennaker: 25 m² The first five boats were raced in the ports where the Volvo Ocean Race had stopovers (2005). The model has become a One Design Class sailing the iShares Cup. Four more boats were built in 2007 and until the season 2009 nineteen boats have been completed and delivered.(2010)

Designed by Yves Loday and built by Marström Composites, the Extreme 40 is a specialized racing platform with only 19 hulls constructed in 2005. Its extreme light displacement of 2756.0 lb and high sail area-to-displacement ratio of 81.6 define it as a high-performance, low-comfort vessel.

Best for:

This boat suits experienced sailors seeking a high-performance racing platform or a lightweight coastal cruiser, but it is generally unsuitable for novice sailors or those prioritizing heavy-weather comfort due to its low comfort ratio of 1.77.

Bluewater capability:

With a capsize ratio of 6.18 and a displacement of 2756.0 lb, the Extreme 40 is not recommended for serious bluewater cruising due to its light weight and lack of heavy-weather stability.
