About the ERICSON 23-2
Among the changes from the ERICSON 23-1: A transom hung rudder, higher aspect rig, and lower profile coach roof. A keel-centerboard version was, by far, the most popular. Draft (max.) 5.16' / 1.57m Draft (min.) 1.92' / 0.59m Displacement: 3200 lbs./ 1452 kgs. Ballast: 1300 lbs. / 590 kgs.
Designed by Bruce King and built by Ericson Yachts from 1975–1979, the Ericson 23-2 is a compact masthead sloop with 270 hulls produced. Its lightweight displacement of 3100.0 lb and fin keel configuration prioritize performance and ease of handling over heavy offshore comfort.
- Best for:
- This boat suits coastal cruisers and trailerable boat owners seeking a responsive, easy-to-single-hand day sailor. It is ideal for those prioritizing quick acceleration and manageable dockage over long-range bluewater provisioning.
- Bluewater capability:
- With a low displacement of 3100.0 lb and a capsize ratio of 2.18, the Ericson 23-2 is best suited for protected coastal waters rather than extended offshore passages.
- Comparables:
- Comparable boats include the Cal 20 and O'Day 23, which share similar trailerable dimensions and coastal cruising roles. These models offer similar masthead sloop rigs and lightweight performance characteristics for short-range cruising.
