The original DYER DHOW (without the sail and centerboard) is said to have been developed by William Dyer during World War II for sea and air rescue and was carried on many PT Boats. Though only 9 feet it has a carrying capacity of 650 lbs. Actually drawn by Charles Wittholz when he worked for Philip Rhodes.

The Dyer Dhow is a historic 9.0 ft catamaran designed by Philip Rhodes, Charles Wittholz, and Dyer, with a massive production run of 6500 hulls built starting in 1944. This extensive build count and long production history make it one of the most ubiquitous small sailing craft in history, characterized by its lightweight 106.0 lb displacement and variable keel options.

This boat is best suited for casual day sailing, learning to sail, or as a tender for larger yachts, given its 9.0 ft LOA and 4.5 ft beam. Its lightweight nature and simple Cat (Marconi) rig make it ideal for single-handers or families seeking low-maintenance, easy-to-launch recreation on sheltered waters.

Bluewater capability:

With a displacement of only 106.0 lb and a capsize ratio of 3.8, the Dyer Dhow is not designed for offshore bluewater cruising but is limited to protected coastal and inland waters.
