About the CSY 44 (MID-COCKPIT)
There were three version of the CSY 44: PILOT HOUSE, MID COCKPIT, and WALK THROUGH. Most popular was the MID-COCKPIT (shown here) or 'walk-over', built from 1977 to 1980 primarily for the charter trade. The Pilot House design has an aft cockpit and a second second steering station. Most were delivered with the ketch rig. A shoal draft version draws 4.92'. The Walk-through version provided access to the aft cabin through the galley area without coming on deck. These were normally delivered as cutters with a few rigged as ketches. The CSY 44 was also sold under a number of other names including the CYGNET 44 and later, the ANTIQUA 44.
Designed by Frank Hamlin and Peter Schmitt and built by CSY Yacht Corp. from 1977โ1980, the CSY 44 (Mid-Cockpit) is a heavy-displacement cruiser known for its robust construction. With a displacement of 38000.0 lb and a comfort ratio of 48.3, this vessel prioritizes seakeeping and stability over speed.
- Best for:
- This boat is ideal for serious coastal and offshore cruisers who value a quiet, stable ride and are willing to manage a heavier, slower vessel. It suits couples or small families seeking a secure, mid-cockpit layout for long-term liveaboard or extended cruising.
- Bluewater capability:
- With a capsize ratio of 1.59 and a displacement of 38000.0 lb, the CSY 44 is well-suited for bluewater cruising, offering exceptional stability and resistance to capsizing in heavy weather.
- Comparables:
- Comparable vessels include the Cal 40 and O'Day 40, which share similar mid-cockpit layouts and heavy displacement characteristics from the late 1970s. These boats offer similar cruising comfort and interior volume, though the CSY 44 distinguishes itself with its specific cutter rig and higher build quality reputation.
