Sailpages Buyer's Take

Designed by Raymond Wall and built by Canadian Sailcraft from 1978–1987, the CS 36 is a robust cruising sloop with 400 hulls produced. Its heavy displacement and fin keel design reflect a focus on stability and comfort for long-range cruising.

Best for:
This boat suits coastal and offshore cruisers who prioritize a comfortable motion and proven seaworthiness over high-performance racing metrics. It is well-suited for couples or small families seeking a reliable, traditional cruising platform.
Bluewater capability:
With a displacement of 15500.0 lb and a capsize ratio of 1.85, the CS 36 is well-suited for offshore passages due to its heavy, stable hull form and proven design heritage.
Comparables:
Comparable boats include the Cal 36 and O'Day 36, which share similar displacement and beam dimensions from the same era. These vessels offer similar cruising comfort and interior volume, making them direct competitors in the 36-foot heavy-displacement market.
