About the CONQUEST (SAILSTAR)
Introduced just as the Sailstar line was being retired so few were built. (probably less than 20?) Thanks to Mark Spruell for providing photo.
The Sailstar Conquest is a compact 19.2 ft fractional sloop designed by Paul Coble and built by Sailstar Boats/Bristol Yachts (USA) during the short production run of 1967β1968. With a displacement of 1750.0 lb and a comfort ratio of 11.9, this vessel represents a lightweight, performance-oriented approach to small boat cruising from the late 1960s.
- Best for:
- This boat is best suited for coastal day-sailing and light overnight cruising, appealing to owners who prioritize agility and ease of handling over heavy offshore protection. Its fractional sloop rig and relatively low displacement make it an excellent candidate for single-handers or couples seeking a manageable, trailerable package.
- Bluewater capability:
- With a capsize ratio of 2.26 and a displacement of 1750.0 lb, the Conquest is not designed for serious bluewater passagemaking but is capable of protected coastal and bay cruising. Its full/long keel provides directional stability, yet its light displacement limits its suitability for heavy weather offshore work.
- Comparables:
- Comparable vessels include the Pearson 19 and the O'Day 19, which share similar dimensions and target the same market of entry-level coastal cruisers. These boats are comparable due to their similar LOA of approximately 19 ft and their role as accessible, trailerable sailboats from the same era.
