About the COMPETITION 1000
Intended as IOR 1/2 ton racer. A strip planked prototype also came from this builder. Sven Svendsen's Boat Works was located at Alameda, CA. We have not seen any reliable documentation from the designer or builder. Dimensions shown were reported in Boating Magazine, July-August 1974.
Designed by Alan Gurney and built by Sven Svendsen's Boat Works(USA), the Competition 1000 is a rare 28.67 ft masthead sloop with only 6 hulls built between 1973–1975. Its scarcity and specific build count make it a unique collector's item rather than a mass-produced cruiser.
