About the COLUMBIA T-26
'T' for trailerable. This design was recycled a number of times. Among some of the copies (licensing arrangement unknown) are the HORIZON 26 and COMMODORE 26.
The Columbia T-26 is a compact trailerable sloop designed by Alan Payne and built by Columbia Yachts (USA) between 1974 and 1977, with a total production of 130 hulls. Its design emphasizes ease of handling and transportability, featuring a masthead sloop rig and a full/long keel configuration.
- Best for:
- This boat is ideally suited for coastal cruising and trailerable sailing, appealing to owners who prioritize easy transport and manageable single-handed or couple sailing. Its light displacement and shallow draft make it excellent for exploring protected waters and marinas with limited depth.
- Bluewater capability:
- With a displacement of 4400.0 lb and a capsize ratio of 1.95, the T-26 is primarily designed for coastal use rather than extended offshore passages, though its full keel provides inherent stability for short offshore trips.
- Comparables:
- Comparable boats include the O'Day 23 and Pearson 23, which share similar trailerable dimensions and coastal cruising roles from the same era. These vessels offer similar masthead sloop configurations and target the same market of weekend cruisers seeking manageable, transportable sailboats.
