About the COLUMBIA T-23
A number of different boats from a number of builders (at least into the mid 1980's) have shared origins with this particular design. "T" for Trailerable ? It was recycled as the CORONADO 23-2. Other versions include the CHARGER 23, CORSAIR 23, LANCER 25. Another version from the original molds or a copy was built by Bayliner, US Yachts, and Pearson Yachts.
Designed by Alan Payne and built by Columbia Yachts (USA) from 1973–1977, the Columbia T-23 is a compact trailerable sloop with 406 hulls produced. Its lightweight displacement of 2300.0 lb and full/long keel configuration define its performance characteristics.
- Best for:
- This boat suits coastal cruisers and trailerable sailing enthusiasts who prioritize ease of transport and storage over heavy offshore endurance.
- Bluewater capability:
- With a low displacement of 2300.0 lb and a capsize ratio of 2.4, the T-23 is generally considered suitable for protected coastal waters rather than extended bluewater passages.
- Comparables:
- Comparable to other 1970s trailerable sloops like the O'Day 23 or Pearson 23, it shares similar dimensions and a focus on manageable size for single-handed or couple cruising.
