About the COLUMBIA 39 CONSTELLATION

Design credit for this model was never listed in any of the promotional literature. But the similarities to the earlier COLUMBIA 40 seem obvious. A keel/cb version was also offered. Neither version was built in great numbers. A later, entirely different COLUMBIA 39 was introduced in 1970.

Sailpages Buyer's Take

The Columbia 39 Constellation is a rare, heavy-displacement cruising sloop designed by Charles Morgan and built by Columbia Yachts (USA) between 1966 and 1967. With only 7 hulls built, this model represents a very limited production run of a classic American cruiser.

Best for:
This boat suits experienced coastal cruisers and traditionalists who prioritize comfort and stability over speed, given its high comfort ratio of 33.23 and substantial displacement.
Bluewater capability:
With a displacement of 15000.0 lb and a low capsize ratio of 1.73, the boat is well-suited for offshore passages, offering excellent stability and motion comfort in heavy weather.
Comparables:
Comparable to other late-1960s heavy-displacement American cruisers like the Columbia 36 or early O'Day models, it shares a similar emphasis on interior volume and seakindliness over planing performance.
