About the CARAVEL 25 (CHEVERTON)
3nd place in a 'Yachting World' design competition of 1949. Limited production didn't begin until 1958. The Mk ll was introduced in 1962 with a fractional rig and a laminated coach roof with raised doghouse. Returned to masthead rig with a Mk III version of which few were built. (shown here) All together it is thought the about 50 were turned out.
Designed by David Cheverton and built by David Cheverton Ltd. (UK), the Caravel 25 is a rare classic with only 50 hulls constructed between 1958 and 1961. Its full/long keel and masthead sloop rig reflect the traditional cruising philosophies of the late 1950s.
