About the CAPE CARIB 33

Sailpages Buyer's Take

The Cape Carib 33 is a classic staysail ketch designed by Edward S. Brewer and built by Cape Yachts Ltd (HK) in 1970. With a displacement of 9800.0 lb and a full/long keel, this vessel represents a specific era of offshore-oriented cruising yachts, though the exact total hulls built is unknown.

Best for:
This boat suits experienced coastal cruisers and bluewater adventurers who prioritize seakeeping and traditional sailing characteristics over high-speed performance. Its staysail ketch rig and heavy displacement make it well-suited for shorthanded or single-handed offshore passages.
Bluewater capability:
With a displacement of 9800.0 lb, a capsize ratio of 1.73, and a full/long keel, the Cape Carib 33 is inherently stable and well-suited for offshore passage-making.
Comparables:
Comparable vessels include the Cape George 33 and other Brewer-designed ketches from the early 1970s, such as the Cape Dory 30, due to their shared emphasis on heavy displacement, full keels, and robust offshore capability.
