About the BOOMERANG 20
One of the most popular 'trailer sailers' of Australia. Originally built of molded plywood. A drop keel version was also available with slightly smaller rig. Drop keel draft - KU: 1.0' BD: 3.67'. An updated version called the B63, based on the same hull but with a new deck and rig was introduced in 1986.
The Boomerang 20 is a compact, lightweight fractional sloop designed by Eric Maizey and built by Maison Marine and Peninsula Yachts in Australia. Production was limited to the year 1968, with the exact number of hulls built remaining unknown.
- Best for:
- This boat is best suited for coastal cruising and day sailing, particularly for owners seeking a manageable, trailerable package that offers good performance in light to moderate winds.
- Bluewater capability:
- With a low displacement of 1830.0 lb and a comfort ratio of 10.49, the Boomerang 20 is not designed for extended bluewater passages but is capable of protected coastal cruising.
- Comparables:
- Comparable boats include other late-1960s Australian trailerable designs like the O'Day 20 or early Catalina 22s, sharing similar fractional sloop rigs and emphasis on ease of handling over heavy displacement.
