About the BLUEJACKET 23 (PACESHIP)
The Bluejacket came in two models described as a "Daysailer" and a "MORCEE". The latter was intended to comply with the Midget Ocean Racing Club Rule (MORC) by virtue of its positive flotation (large blocks of foam inside the cockpit seats and in the bow), self-bailing cockpit and enclosed cabin. Except for the reverse transom, it is similar to the GRAMPIAN 22. Also similar to the CLASSIC 22, VIKING 22 and GAZELLE 22. Thanks to Ken H. for providing additional information on this yacht. Designed by Cuthbertson & Cassian and built by Paceship Yachts (CAN) in 1967, the Bluejacket 23 is a compact fractional sloop with a displacement of 2000.0 lb. While the exact hull count is unknown, this vintage Canadian cruiser is characterized by its light weight and fin keel, appealing to owners seeking a manageable, classic daysailer or coastal cruiser.
- Best for:
- This boat is best suited for coastal cruising, daysailing, and weekend trips, particularly for couples or small families who prioritize ease of handling and trailerability over long-range offshore endurance.
- Bluewater capability:
- With a low displacement of 2000.0 lb and a capsize ratio of 2.22, the Bluejacket 23 is not designed for serious bluewater voyaging but is capable of protected coastal passages and short offshore trips in moderate conditions.
- Comparables:
- Comparable boats include other late-1960s Canadian trailerable cruisers like the Paceship 22 or similar Cuthbertson designs, as well as early O'Day or Pearson models of similar length, due to their shared emphasis on light displacement and fractional rigs.
