About the BECKER 27
Development of the ARABESQUE 26 (1970).
Designed by Harry Becker and built by AB Väneröplast in Sweden, the Becker 27 is a compact, well-regarded cruiser produced between 1974 and 1981. With a total production run of 400 hulls, this boat offers a solid foundation for coastal cruising, though its age requires diligent maintenance of structural components.
- Best for:
- This boat is best suited for coastal cruisers and weekend warriors who value a manageable size and proven Scandinavian build quality. Its moderate displacement and fin keel make it responsive for day sailing, while its compact dimensions allow for easy trailering and storage.
- Bluewater capability:
- With a displacement of 5093.0 lb and a capsize ratio of 2.09, the Becker 27 is primarily designed for coastal use rather than extended bluewater passages. Its relatively light displacement and short LWL of 21.16 ft suggest it is best kept within sight of land or sheltered waters.
- Comparables:
- Comparable boats from this era include the O'Day 27 and the Cal 27, which share similar beam and displacement characteristics. These vessels are comparable because they all target the same market of affordable, trailerable cruisers with masthead sloop rigs and fin keels.
