About the ARPEGE 30 (DUFOUR)

Besides being a truly innovative design that set a new standard at the time, the ARPEGE is also one of Dufours most successful models, financially and on the race course. For the US market, the ARPEGE was sold in 2 versions, one at 30 feet and one at just under 30 feet, the latter to accommodate the MORC rule. Some boats had a deeper keel than the one shown here. More than 1500 were sold world wide.

Sailpages Buyer's Take

Designed by Michel Dufour and built by Dufour (FRA) from 1966–1976, the Arpege 30 is a classic French cruiser with 1500 hulls produced. Its 7700.0 lb displacement and 322.83 D/L ratio reflect a sturdy, comfortable design typical of its era.

Best for:
This boat suits coastal cruisers and those seeking a traditional sailing experience, as evidenced by the high frequency of upgrades like dodgers, cockpit canvas, and barrier coats for long-term maintenance.
Bluewater capability:
With a capsize ratio of 2.01 and a comfort ratio of 22.95, the Arpege 30 offers moderate offshore stability, though its age and common structural issues require careful assessment for serious bluewater use.
Comparables:
Comparable boats include other 1970s European cruisers like the Beneteau First 30 or O'Day 30, which share similar masthead sloop rigs and moderate displacement for coastal cruising.
