About the APHRODITE 101

First boats were built by Langeland Yacht Service. Later Bianca Yachts built some 360 APHRODITE 101''s up until the late eighties. Some of these were exported to other european countries, and a few to the US. Also known as BIANCA 101.

Sailpages Buyer's Take

Designed by Paul Elvstrom and Jan Kjaerulff and built by Bianca Yachts (DEN) from 1977, the Aphrodite 101 is a lightweight, performance-oriented cruiser with 450 hulls produced. Its fractional sloop rig and fin keel configuration prioritize speed and handling, making it a popular choice for active sailors, though its age necessitates careful inspection of structural integrity.

Best for:
This boat suits coastal cruisers and club racers who value performance and ease of single-handed sailing, as indicated by the high prevalence of modern electronics and sail upgrades. It is less ideal for heavy-weather bluewater passagemaking due to its light displacement and specific structural vulnerabilities.
Bluewater capability:
With a displacement of 6174.0 lb and a capsize ratio of 1.73, the Aphrodite 101 is moderately capable offshore but requires significant structural reinforcement and careful weight management for serious bluewater use. Its light displacement and fin keel design favor coastal and nearshore cruising over heavy-weather ocean passages.
Comparables:
Comparable boats include the Beneteau First 32 and the O'Day 32, which share similar fractional sloop rigs and light displacement characteristics from the late 1970s. These vessels offer similar performance profiles but often feature different hull construction methods that may present distinct maintenance challenges.

Near-identical models — same hull, builder and designer, re-badged or lightly changed. Specs and owner-reported issues are typically shared across the group, so a sister model's page may carry detail this one doesn't.
