About the ALACRITY 19
The ALACRITY 18 was originally designed for and built of molded plywood. When it was adapted to fiberglass it became more than a foot longer. There are several versions: the Mk1, MkII, and the Weekender.
The Alacrity 19 is a compact, lightweight day sailor designed by Peter Stevenson and built by Russell Marine Ltd. /Hurley Marine Ltd. in 1960. With a hull count of ?, this single-year production run represents a specific era of British small-boat design, characterized by its 18.5 ft LOA and 1500.0 lb displacement.
- Best for:
- This boat is best suited for protected coastal day sailing and casual weekend cruising, appealing to owners who prioritize ease of trailering and storage over long-range offshore capability. Its light displacement and shallow draft make it ideal for shallow-water exploration and single-handed or couple sailing in benign conditions.
- Bluewater capability:
- With a capsize ratio of 2.42 and a comfort ratio of 10.09, the Alacrity 19 is not designed for offshore passage-making and should be restricted to coastal and sheltered waters. Its low displacement of 1500.0 lb and shallow max draft of 1.82 ft further limit its stability and seakeeping in heavy weather.
- Comparables:
- Comparable boats include the Wayfarer and the Sunfish, as they share similar dimensions, lightweight construction, and a focus on recreational day sailing rather than serious bluewater cruising. The Alacrity 19's masthead sloop rig and twin/triple keel configuration also align it with other 1960s British daysailers like the Enterprise.
